We Were Stupid | 16x20
16x20
Rendered in rich, textured oil, “We Were Stupid” explores the heavy psychological weight of human vulnerability and the wisdom gained from self-inflicted storms.
By ignoring the signs of an impending squall, the vessels find themselves navigating a turbulent, roiling foreground of dark stones and crashing waves. Thick impasto palette knife work builds both the elemental chaos of the sea and the rugged surfaces of the ships themselves, capturing their shared struggle.
Beneath the oil, a tactile collage underlayer represents the broken fragments of where we used to be, serving as the raw foundation over which a redemptive future is intentionally painted. Meanwhile, a deliberate contrast of warm, golden luminism reveals a sovereign promise: that no matter how deep into the tempest we steer ourselves, there is always a divine invitation available, guiding us back to the light.
